Personal Notes:
Greetings. In last month’s newsletter I spoke about strangers holding the door for people – how that was a simple random act of kindles that could make someone REALLY happen. The very day last month’s newsletter was released I was walking into an office building carrying two HUGE (and therefore heavy) bottles of water. I was struggling to open the door and balance my load. Someone from within the building came to my rescue and opened the doors for me. How is THAT for setting intention?


What can you do to set intention to change your life or someone else’s?

Nutrition Tip

Cucumbers are the perfect summer food – they are in season and VERY cooling. They are high in water, the second highest after watermelon. They have the ability to clear heat in the body, quench thirst, relieve edema (swelling) and eliminate excess water in the body. Cucumbers can also cleanse and purify the blood; and contain digestive enzymes to aid in breaking down protein and assisting in cleansing the intestines. We have all seen cucumbers used over eyes to reduce swelling – they can also be use topically on burns and for clearing blemishes.

Featured Recipe

This is a wonderful summer soup – very easy, very refreshing a tasty too..


Chilled Cucumber & Avocado Soup Serves 4


2-3 cucumbers, peeled, seeded and chopped

1 avocado, seeded and peeled

cup fresh cilantro

2 T olive oil

1-2 juiced lime

1-2 cloves garlic, mashed

2 green onions

2 cups cold water


Throw all in a food processor and run until smooth.

Chilling soup for at least one hour will bring out the flavors, or you can serve it right away.

Easy, yummy and nutritious!

Stay on Track at Social Events


Social events such as parties, receptions and family gatherings (or the plethora of summer events and picnics) can be a challenge to healthy eating. Because we have no control over what is served, we often feel pressured to eat foods not recommended in a healthy eating program. The following tips may help.


  1. At a buffet, look ahead in line to see what healthy choices are available. Fill up on healthier choices, more vegetable based selections.


  1. Bring a healthy dish to a pot-luck dinner. That way, you will have at least one acceptable item among the choices.


  1. At parties, focus on activities other than eating. To avoid temptation, sit away from the area where food is being served.


  1. Ask for help from family and friends who know you are following a healthy eating plan. Ask them to include healthy choices on the menu.


  1. Have a few ready answers to say no politely to unhealthy foods. For example “Thank you, but I couldn’t eat another bite; everything was delicious.’
